While quite popular among professionals, many businesses are still not convinced of the usefulness of LinkedIn for their business.  The following LinkedIn stats are impressive and will provide you with an idea of just how popular LinkedIn has become and why it can be a powerful tool for a business or a professional.

LinkedIn has 101 million members worldwide.  Of these members, 47.2% members are from North America, and 23% from Europe.  There are 44 million US and 4 million Canadian users.

India has the 2nd highest number of LinkedIn users after the United States.

LinkedIn stats also show that 59% of users are male and 41% are female.   Of these users 21% are between the ages of 18 – 24, 36% are between the ages of 25 – 34, 36% are between the ages of 35 – 54 and 7% are 54 and over.

Consumers tend to trust information received from social networking sites, with LinkedIn being the leader in consumer trust; being trusted by 82% of consumers, whereas, Facebook sits at 23% trust level among consumers and Twitter at 28%.

LinkedIn stats cover a variety of jobs; income and industries include high tech, finance, manufacturing, medicine and corporate industries, while jobs include sales, administration, academics, operations, and engineering.  Sales jobs are at the head of the pack with 12% of LinkedIn members in sales, Administration is next to follow with 10.4%  and Academics is next with 10.3%. Other LinkedIn stats for jobs include Marketing at 4.3%, Information Technology at 8.3%, Creative jobs at 3.6%, Operations at 9.7%, Legal at 2.4%, Consultants at 5.4%, PR at 4.3% and HR at 3.8% of members.  The average household income is 88K, which is a sizable household income for most.

LinkedIn is used by 69 of the top 100 Fortune 500 companies.  With 80% of LinkedIn members influencing business decisions at their companies, this network generates serious business potential through referrals and leads.

Leading sectors on LinkedIn are tech and finance and LinkedIn stats show tech leading the pack at 15.3% of users and finance 12.9%.

LinkedIn stats also show that it has become a popular place for businesses to recruit.  In fact, 50% of Fortune 100 companies hire through LinkedIn, demonstrating the value of this professional network when using the site to further ones employment career.

Of LinkedIn users, 62% of the users log in from the comfort of their home.

30% of US LinkedIn members and 30% of Europe LinkedIn members are part of a small enterprise with a staff that consists of less than 1000 individuals.  On the other hand 55% of Asia users are more likely to be part of an enterprise that consists of over 10,000 individuals.

LinkedIn is a great Social Media site for business owners that can have a tremendous impact on their business.  LinkedIn is free to use and a important resource for professional networking, to build business relationships and provide or receive referrals.  It is a network for professionals of all ages to gather and share information as well as discover new business opportunities.
